A patchwork designed piece consisting of pen and ink drawings of a conch shell, starfish, sea turtle, compass and seahorse layered over acrylic painted wood in indigo. The other background pieces consist of antique maps of the world. Inspired by vintage scientific drawings. Watermark will not appear on printed piece.
My work has evolved as a result of my graphic design training combined with my love of painting and drawing. As a child, I always enjoyed artwork and was in constant need of art supplies. I studied classical painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago then transferred to Parsons School of Design in New York City. There I began a love affair with oil paints. I love the smell and the way they move around the canvas. I also work in pencil, pastels and acrylics. I changed my course to graphic design believing the digital skills I would acquire would help my career, while my fine arts knowledge would enhance my graphic work. I painted solely in oils but quickly realized the benefit of fast drying acrylics. At the same...
